    General Knowledge Tips
Always keep enough credits for the rebuy cost of your ship.
You can request to dock as soon as you get 7.5 km from the station.
I suggest playing in Open Play or in the Mobius group, simply to find friends to play with.
If it seems risky, it is. Never attack a ship twice your size, especially if its in a wing with other ships.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/ is your friend.
    http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Dangerous_Wiki is your friend.
    http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Ship is your friend.q
Always pay attention to how much fuel you have, you don't want to be stuck in a system that cannot refuel your ship.
Trade routes are generally the most profitable. Smuggling is another way to earn credits fast.
Go into your Galaxy Map, and learn the PowerPlay(PP) characters and their stats and control system benefits.
I would not recommend pledging to a PP unless you like being attacked randomly in their enemy states.
If you accept any mission with a target station destination, be sure to check how many lightseconds (LS) it is from the system's primary star. If it is more than 2,000LS it is usually a waste of time.
There is a private group named "MOBIUS" that is intended for players who solely wish to PvE (Player Versus Environment), meaning other players will not attack you unless you consent to a duel. Due to the game mechanics players can still be able to attack you without your consent, however if they do you can have that player banned. It took about a day before I was accepted into this group.
Use this link to find ship modules/components, such as Frame Shift Drives, that are close to you. http://roguey.co.uk/elite-dangerous/equipment/

    Trade Route Tools
1-Rogueys - Good knowledge base, but not so much for trading. http://roguey.co.uk/elite-dangerous/

2-Elite: Dangerous Database - Works well for various reasons. https://eddb.io/

3-Thrudd's - Easy to use. Takes a little time to find good systems but not always accurate. http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

4-Slopey's BPC Market Tool - Takes some time, but highly accurate and generally very good. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=53037

Starting out you will have a Sidewinder. I recommend doing short cargo runs or going into NAV Beacons or Resource Extraction Sites (RES). However it is advised not to go into a Hazardous RES (HazRES) unless you are in a wing or own a nicely fitted combat ship (10 million credits+). Although, as an experienced combat pilot I have survived in a HazRES in just a Viper MkIII, but I also spent the most I could on all modules.
In the Bulletin Board on Stations there will be various types of missions you can accept, however pay attention to the combat rank difficulties, and how much cargo you will be able to carry. Generally you do not want to accept a cargo mission if it takes all of your cargo space up. Assassination missions are fun, and they are completed by finding Unidentified Signal Sources (USS) within your target system, it may take several attempts before your target will appear in one of these.
    http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Bulletin_Board

The Resource Extraction Sites (RES) come in a variety of options. Low, Medium, High and Hazardous. All of these but Hazardous will include System Authority Vessels (Police!). With that being said the HazRES will generally be more dangerous, as there will be no police to help support you against wanted criminals. Any planet with at least one ring is a potential candidate for an RES, especially if the planet is noted in System Map view as possessing "reserves" (Common, Major, or Pristine).

If you want more credits faster I highly recommend obtaining a Hauler and doing Rare Commodity trade runs. The bigger your ships cargo and the longer it can jump the more credits you will make.
How to fit your Hauler, NO SHIELDS(Don't Boost inside stations), also fit the best discovery scanner you can on it.
A useful link to create your very own trade route - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...tXRs8GDHqchYjo9Svkyh4/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0

I will create a sufficient one later that will not involve black markets, however the ones with black markets are much more profitable, the black markets may not always be availible at stations. So any rare trade route that is made may not produce the same results, even the day after its made. With that being said, it is best for you to learn how to make your very own trade route using the spreadsheet above.

The rare commodities will be available for purchase in the Commodities Market tab while docked with a space station. They will be highlighted in Yellow instead of Orange and they will stand out from the rest of the commodities.

Once you have roughly 2.8 million credits, go buy yourself a Lakon Type-6 Transporter! The Type-6 (T6) will make those last 2.8 million credits seem like a cake walk. Do trade loops in this ship, and aim for trade loops that is only 1 or 2 jumps from where you're buying and selling, unless you've studied your PP characters and know which PP will net you the most profit. (Hint: Archon Delaine and Zemina Torval)

Should you have a ship with a lower Fuel Store you may opt to take a Fuel Scoop rather than one of the cargo racks jsut to be sure you don't run out of fuel.

The play-style with the T6 is generally the same with every other ship you'll have from here until you're in an Anaconda.
    Hauler - http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=70V,,2-3m3m3I2C2C2C3c,05U05U03w2Uc

    Python - http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=705,,2-BaA07_6uBaAA8I,0AA0AA0AA08c08c7Re05U2UI0nE

As you can tell all of these ship load-outs use the lightest weight modules and the best frame shift drive (FSD) to achieve the highest cargo capacity with the highest jump range. More cargo + less Jumping from system to system = more credits.

With only 1 jump trade loops you'll most likely not need a shield generator. Also try to stay away from stations that are 1000 light seconds (LS) or more away from the star of the system you jump into.

More complicated trade routes are also more profitable. However they'll be riskier than the rest. They can involve black markets, silent running with heat sinks and illicit cargo. Here is a decent video showing you what you can expect.

My current trade route that I do I recommend having at least 75+ Cargo Capacity. Here it is - Buy Imperial Slaves at Roentengen Hub in LFT 37, now travel to the system HK Aquarii and find Leestma Terminal. Once you arrive in this system, beware as the imperial slaves are illegal and you could be fined by being scanned upon entry of the station or if you are interdicted from Supercruise while you are travelling within the system by System Security Vessels (Police). Do not forget to request docking, getting fined for your illicit cargo is not fun. As soon as I drop out of supercruise near the station in HK Aquarii I turn on Silent Running, and I use heat sink launchers so that my Heat does not rise above 45%. This method does not always keep you from being scanned, so do try to be hasty when entering into Leestma. So its best to approach the station from the object-side/planet-side it is orbiting. If you are close to the Docking Bay/Mailslot and you get scanned, getting through the airlock and inside the station as quick as possible will stop their scan and you will not be fined, as long as you make it inside the station before their scan on you is complete. Once you break the police's line of sight it will break their scan.

Right now I'm currently trying to increase my rank to be able to buy the faction ships. This link will basically explain everything I would want you to know about your Rank. Although, keep in my the method that this video uses to obtain faction rank may not be the best way. However the information that is shared in this video is the most accurate I've been able to find.

I have also started doing this for empire rank. These types of missions require a combat ship with missile racks.

Here is a budget combat ship build in order to do these types of missions. http://coriolis.io/outfit/viper/23A3A3A2D3A3D2C2g2g181803032940v625.Iw1+kA==.CwBhGYCZLBGbK1iSog==

Nice chunk of info there. Good stuff if you want to go the trade route. I was always more multi-purpose leaning towards combat with some exploration mixed in. Might not make money as fast but more fun for me personally.

My ship progression has been: Sidewinder-Cobra III - Vulture - Asp - Imperial Clipper - Fed Assault Ship - Python.

Cobra and Asp are great for exploration and I've also done lots of mining in them as well as the clipper/python.

I'm a hoarder too so I also still own every one of those ships (bar the sidewinder), which has slowed my progression somewhat :)

Nice! Yeah I've always made fun my top priority. I'm currently trying to get enough rank to go buy myself a Cutter :)
    I currently own a Viper mk3(Combat), Hauler(Taxi/Explorer), AspX(Base Assault), and an Anaconda(Trade).

Rare trading needs long routes to maximize profits and you should use the route calculators as its distance from Source to Destination that matters not how long the actual jumps where!

Correct! It is usually best to sell the source item at about 150-160LY from its purchase destination.
I believe this is your loop? http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/?route...16,9,8,87,51,52,72,62,23,6&name=Aakek route 1

Yes that was my loop.. it is crazy long and in the upper part there if you are playing online or want 'safe' you should skip the longer hauls in the low security areas. I HAVE been attacked there though never lost anything as they could not pin me down just dropped me out of warp a few times but I always managed to escape.

Though the profit might be more like 5M? I forget its been so long there was a thread about it somewhere. It does take an obscene amount of time to run so there are better ways to make $$. This route was nice for being vaguely AFK a lot :)

I'm glad you posted all of this Anodak. I've been playing stupid amounts of Elite lately but I still feel mostly clueless.

There's a lot to learn. I've had the game a year now and I'm still learning things.

I fucking love E:D. I have my Exploraconda with a 54.2 ly range with shields, fighter hangar, vehicle bay, etc...

I play in Mobius and I loved the ruins event since I got to see a bunch of ships come and go on the planet surface. The whole thing itself was a bit of a bust, but was still fun for a while.

EDIT: Anodak, you have NO idea how happy I am that my quote is still in your signature after all these years.

What's your Commander name? I've been playing pretty much continually when I can. A few others have been hopping back in lately and we had some great fun in multicrew the other night.

Lol, same name in-game? I will add you. Haven't been playing much the last couple weeks due to work but I'm always glad to hop in for some wing or multi crew action if I'm around.
