Ok this does age me a bit... but I do have this particular memory....
oh fack, even i had these on my bike when i was a kid, man.. the pain xD
Yep, been there. damn it hurt like hell.
They were plastic by my time but still had the same spikes!
well... a little research and I have come to the conclusion there is an ongoing conspiracy to hurt shins
Some current pedal designs available today are below... they appear to have been designed to be extra painful if you slip.
I swear... when they design "non slip" bicycle pedals.. they design them so that if you do slip... you pay dearly for it.
Those things suck, lol!
After a few years those bastard end up being from Rusty Hell, waaay worst lol. That bring up good old 6 years old me on his yellow BMX with a busted crooked rear wheel crashing after going too fast downhill. Didn't had a concussion but I had some "diachylon" ( you know those hardcore bandages to close wound) on my head and eldow. aah childhood as a farmer's kids lol
I had a "Schwin Sting-ray" bicycle as a young boy. I could do big jumps and all kinds of stuff on that bicycle.... it had those first shin eater pedals I posted above on it.
One time I demonstrated that not only could I do some pretty cool jumps... I could do epic fails also as I ended up with 17 stitches in my chin, and all my molars shattered (they had to cap them all) one time when I flipped it and hit pavement chin first.... the doctor never figured out how I kept from breaking my jaw with that impact...
When it happened I remember thinking; "oh shit this is gonna hurt"... then a huge impact to my chin, a blinding flash of light and howling in my ears... I could not get up for a bit... and when I did I could barely stand....
